The 510 Dro (pronounced “five-one-oh”) is an artist that prides himself on his musical range, abilities and interests. With a love for music of all kinds, his music blends genres with ease. His track “Oh” is a unique, upbeat song that invites listeners to dance, sing along, and have a good time.

The track “Oh” is classified as “indie pop” but it goes far beyond that. With a rap-esque intro, electronic based production, sung vocals and even vocals that take inspiration from musical theater, it’s a track that shows multiple parts of The 510 Dro’s musical influence and background.

“I started with the rhythm. Rhythm is the most important part when creating a dance song or any song. While I still follow music theory, I don’t follow all of the traditional music methods. “For this song, I used a bunch of sounds that I thought sounded cool. And as a millennial, I’ve been listening to all kinds of music every day for decades, so all of those influences are in the back of my mind when I create my own music.” he said.

Singing is something The 510 Dro has a natural love for. He busks and appreciates the face-to-face interactions. These interactions come from people of all ages who appreciate his voice and their words of encouragement matter more to him than any amount of money he makes while doing it.

“At first, I thought I was an okay singer. But I got some vocal lessons from professionals like Tabitha Fair and improved. I even made a literal note to myself saying ‘Just be happy that you can sing well now.’ I wanted to remind myself that no matter what happens, the joy of singing will never leave me. I wanted to have good pitch, sing on key and have a technically sound voice. Now that my skills are much better, I’m enjoying this process and enjoying everything about the music.” he said.

The name “The 510 Dro” is one that was born from practicality and intentionality. Created after his need to differentiate himself from another artist with a similar name, the “510” represents the area code of his home in the Bay Area of California.

“Originally I just wanted to be ‘Dro’ but when I first uploaded my album to Spotify, there was another artist with that name and all my songs uploaded to his page. So I added the ‘510’ which was partially influenced by the America Online (AOL) chatroom days where people would have their area code in their usernames. The big idea was I just wanted a name no one else would have. The ‘The’ part means I’m the only one.” he said

The 510 Dro is an artist who has always loved music but wasn’t always in a position to express it. After working a series of odd jobs, he found himself seeking fulfillment and purpose. Once he fully committed to music, he concluded it was the exact piece of himself that he was looking for.

“Those old jobs sucked the energy out of me. At the same time, they showed me what I truly wanted to do. If I had stayed in a safe, comfortable job, I would not have known that music is what my true passion is. After my last pursuit, I began to reflect and ask myself what I really wanted to do. And a little spark inside me told me to do music. That spark brought me to where I am now.” he said.

The 510 Dro is an artist who has lived a "colorful life” and wants to showcase his artistry to the masses. By giving people a unique and entertaining sound, he hopes to usher in a wave of good music for the coming years.

“I try my best to be as unique as possible. I want to be familiar but different. My goal is to make good, unique music.” he said.
