FreshMusicWorld: When did you begin to see music as more than a personal outlet?
Donna Deee: Last November, at my parents' birthdays, I had an emotional time. I felt like I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings with others, and it came out in songs.
FreshMusicWorld: What personal traits do you think most influence your creative decisions?
Donna Deee: My emotions play a big role in my songwriting. My experiences, past and present — I have somehow experienced everything I’ve written about in some way or another.
FreshMusicWorld: How do ideas for new songs or projects usually take shape for you?
Donna Deee: If I feel or hear something I relate to, I write it down in a notebook, and from there it takes off into a song.
FreshMusicWorld: What helps you stay productive during periods of creative uncertainty?
Donna Deee:I walk away from the notebook and don’t think about trying to force creativity. It’ll come when it’s supposed to.
FreshMusicWorld: How would you describe the elements that define your sound today?
Donna Deee: I’m eclectic… I embrace all music.
FreshMusicWorld: How do you approach evolving musically while maintaining consistency in your work?
Donna Deee: This is a hard question… I don’t have a specific sound yet. I’m really new, so maybe as I evolve, that will too?
FreshMusicWorld: What skills have become more important to you as your career has progressed?
Donna Deee: Playing guitar and singing my own songs at the same time is a very important focus right now. I can do one or the other, but not both at the moment. I’m a work in progress.
FreshMusicWorld: How do you evaluate which opportunities are worth pursuing?
Donna Deee: When I get some opportunities, I’ll let you know. I’m looking forward to that! ?
FreshMusicWorld: How did the creation of this project differ from your earlier work?
Donna Deee: Ask Alice is one of the very first poems I ever wrote. I just recently brought it to life with music.
FreshMusicWorld: How do you think about your audience when you’re creating new material?
Donna Deee: I wonder if my audience can relate to the words I wrote, if they feel like I do, if it will move them emotionally or if they will dance and sing along.
