Things are definitely looking good for Harry Styles fans right now.
Styles gave fans an unexpected treat on Monday April 20 with the release of “Harry Live from Funkhaus,” a studio performance video filmed at Berlin’s Funkhaus. In the session, he performs more stripped back versions of three songs from his latest album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.
The video begins with a title card and soft winter visuals while a piano plays quietly in the background. In the opening scene, Styles is sitting on a snowy park bench wearing a black coat, sneezing before breaking into a smile. It then transitions into a warm studio setting where he is seated at a piano as his band gets ready and discusses how they will approach the songs.
Styles walks up to the mic and puts on his headphones. He is wearing a yellow sweatshirt with “KUSS” printed on the front and “DISKO” on the back, which translate to “kiss” and “disco” in German.
“There’s been another crime, another crime on page three,” Styles jokes while working through a few details with his conductor before they begin.
For the first performance, “Season 2 Weight Loss,” he is backed by a chamber orchestra along with a drummer and pianist. As he delivers the song, standing at the mic with his hands on his headphones, he adjusts the audio live.
“‘Paint By Numbers,’ take 73,” Styles says into the mic after moving to the piano. For the second track, he is joined by string players and a guitarist who also provides backing vocals.“That felt great, I love that one,” one of the musicians says once they wrap up the performance.
For the final song, “Coming Up Roses,” Styles stays at the piano as the string section returns along with the first pianist. An electric bassist also joins the group. He begins the track on piano before the arrangement gradually expands, with the string players switching to bows and the second pianist joining him on keys.
The video ends with a final shot of Styles at the piano, followed by a simple card that reads, “DAS ENDE.”
Released in March, Styles’ fourth solo album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, continuing his streak of chart topping solo projects. The lead single “Aperture” also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has now spent 11 weeks on the chart. Along with “Aperture,” all three songs featured in “Harry Live from Funkhaus” also made appearances on the Hot 100.
