Producer, singer, songwriter, and rapper, pat for now, brings us his latest sound, “where twilight ends, daybreak begins,” out November 11, 2022. The alternative hip hop/acid house album highlights the ebb and flow of mental illness, particularly bipolar disorder.
“This project is kind of like a storytelling concept album about being bipolar and dealing with mental health issues—the good and the bad that comes with that. There are tone shifts and genre shifts throughout the album to make you feel like I feel,” explains pat for now. “It goes from funky jazz, R&B, and alternative hip hop to all of the sudden acid house hip hop.”
In making this album, pat for now hopes to resonate with listeners and let them know that it’s okay to have something going on in their lives. “It doesn’t have to be mental health—any form of trauma or hardship they’re going through. Even in the darkness, there’s light on the other side.”
The self-made artist has been creating music for more than 10 years using a variety of instruments from saxophone to piano (and then some). “Music just comes naturally,” shares pat for now. “There are instances where I have these huge surges of creativity. I’m a naturally creative person.” As for his music-writing process, pat for now starts with the instrumental and works his way through the song. “When I get to the point where I’m doing too much, the I’m finished making the instrumental. Then I’ll listen and write based on how I feel when I listen back.”
Inspired by artists including Kanye, Smino, Mac Miller, and Chance the Rapper, pat for now weaves genres into a musical blanket that soothes listeners and immerses them in his world. “When I hear something moving, like a great song or great artist, I want to emulate that as well,” says the artist. “My music is a mix of electro funk, alternative hip hop, pop, and jazz. I take pride in being a DIY artist.”
Raised in New Jersey, pat for now resides in Philadelphia, where he is steadily taking on the music scene. At his college, pat for now gained vast recognition across the student body as well as local stations. While some people call pat for now “the next Mac Miller,” the reality is he is bringing his own sound to the stage—and making waves along the way.
