SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — With interstellar dreams of making music based on classic rock and science fiction themes, California native Juno Flynn’s debut single “Interstellar Body” features a dreamy melody and an otherworldly sound that yearns for great heights.

Juno Flynn said “Interstellar Body” features a sound inspired by the likes of David Bowie and Elton John, greats of a classical time in the history of Rock & Roll music.

“Those kinds of artists were really formative for me,” Flynn said. “And I've been big into science fiction since childhood. My dad is a science fiction scholar, so we watched a lot of the classics at home, and I knew that I wanted all of those influences to inspire the first track that I released. I wanted to do one of those songs in that tradition of Bowie.”

This track is four minutes and 14 seconds of inspiring music encouraging listeners to dream big and hold on to the “impossible desires” that drive us.

The song calls out to “Stardust Girl” to take the singer home as they travel on a desert highway toward goals and dreams unachieved.

“It’s central that we as people remember to dream and allow ourselves to have these kind of impossible desires,” Flynn said. “It's super important and I feel like the ‘Stardust Girl’ is a metaphor for all those things that keep us motivated to stay living and stay pursuing what makes us happy. I think that's something that we should all keep in mind.”

Flynn said music has been their way of connecting with the world around them since they were a child.

“The way that people use this medium to express things that you can't say, to express emotions and needs, and these really intense experiences that could never be expressed through a conversation because it's just too much, it’s amazing,” Flynn said. “I've always connected really deeply with that in music. I wrote poetry when I was younger. I've written a lot of novels halfway. But I realized actually the problem there is that I wasn't able to say the things that I wanted to say because what I was writing was songs. They're that particular type of idea and concept that you can't get across in anything but metaphor and melody. Once I started writing my thoughts as songs, once I started putting things to verse, it became really easy to just let it flow. And I have a whole album now.”

Flynn released “Interstellar Body” on Aug. 10, and they’re still working on an album to be released soon, but how and when that happens depends on how their debut single is received.

“It's taken me a year to conceptualize and actually figure out what I wanted it to be,” Flynn said. “And in that time, I've learned a lot. I guess I would describe it as my journey through spirituality and what I want out of life and who I want that life to be with. There's some music about break ups in there because they're kind of has to be, I guess. It's part of my perspective on the world and what I want out of it and what I hope to impart on it.”

Flynn said they’re still looking for a name to this future album and hope to release it in the next year.
