Features : Duo Ksalba brings a metal dimension to indie pop with “Chaos,” “Klada”

“Chaos” and “Klada,” the two latest releases from the duo Ksalba, continue the group’s exploration of acoustic instruments blended with electronic.

Both tracks feature deep, resonating electronic bass lines and ethereal vocals.

“Many artists and genres inspire the sound of Ksalba, including our metal background,” said Ksalba. “Although the band is creating in the indie pop realm, the music is clearly drawn towards dark, raw, sensual sounds and textures.”

“Blending the acoustic and electronic sound feels natural to us and helps us fully express ourselves.”

Both members are members of a metal band, with which they are touring. During the pandemic in 2020, the band’s tours were canceled, and the two formed Ksalba and began “experimenting with various styles and instruments for fun.”

“Since then,” they said, “we have released a number of singles which differ significantly in terms of style.”

“Chaos,” with the woman taking the lead vocals, is a courtship song in elemental terms. The Cosmos is speaking to the woman.

“The lyrics of Chaos came first,” said Ksalba. “It was a full moon night by the ocean and it was written in one breath. Then we started looking for the right music to recreate the vibe of that night.”

The vibe is low and ominous, like a heavy sea swelling over a beach rather than crashing violently onto rocks.

In “Klada,” the duo alternates the lead, engaging in a dialogue with each other, and then each addresses the listener about the other. As in “Chaos,” the relationship is expressed in elemental terms, in this case fire.

“The song started with a beat and a bass line we loved from the very start,” said Ksalba. “The lyrics are based on a recent poem of ours.”

“The story embraces the concept of revealing and integrating the shadow self into personal relationships as a building stone for authenticity, integrity, intimacy, healthier individuals and a healthier society,” they said.

“Burn me like a candle / Set my shrine in flames,” he says to her.

“He said he needs some body / Not just any body / To raise it from the ashes,” she says.

“Now stay a little further / Away from my pyre / Cause I don’t need another / Who’s not ready for some fire,” she says to him.

“She said she needs some body / Not just any body / To turn it into ashes,” he says.

Both sing the chorus, beginning, “I know my part / I’ll play it well.”

They do not yet have videos available for either song, but videos are in their plans. However, they recently allowed a rock climber to use “Chaos” as the soundtrack for one of his climbing videos.

“We are currently working on more singles as well as on an upcoming album,” they said. “We just plan and hope to make a lot of music together.”
