Mark Hoppus has revealed he once rejected a romantic gesture from The Cure's Robert Smith.

The Blink 182 star, 53, crossed paths with the 66-year-old British music icon in 2004 when they shared a stage at Wembley Stadium.

Smith, whose albums include Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, joined the American punk-pop band to sing All Of This and Boys Don't Cry.

Recollecting the moment with The Sun, Hoppus said, "It was so surreal, such a rad moment. I went to give him a hug and he leaned in and said, 'Give me a kiss'".

Revealing his regret, the All The Small Things singer added, "I wish I had done it. It would've made such a better story than it almost happened."

Promoting his autobiography, Fahrenheit-182, Hoppus painted a much more tame image of his own iconic band than fans may have expected - saying backstage antics while on tour were far less outrageous than many might think.

He recalled, "People weren't getting hammered all the time, and there weren't chicks backstage. People would literally come back, take a look around and be like, 'This is f***ing boring'."

Smith is a key member of The Cure but has also performed with Siouxsie and the Banshees and as a solo artist.

As well as performing as a member of Blink 182, Hoppus formed a supergroup called +44 alongside fellow Blink 182 star Travis Barker, Shane Gallagher of the Nervous Return, and Craig Fairbaugh of Mercy Killers.
