Olivia Rodrigo has shared how grateful she feels to have teamed up with Chappell Roan and David Byrne for the music video accompanying her ‘Expectations’ remix.
The track originally appeared on her latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, but has now been given a fresh take featuring Chappell. The new version arrived on Friday (October 16), alongside a video inspired by an 1980s game show called The Big Expectations Show. The promo sees Olivia and Chappell take part in the fictional programme, with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne appearing as the host and Olivia's longtime producer Dan Nigro also making an appearance.
Sharing photos from the shoot on Instagram, Olivia announced the release and expressed her excitement about the collaboration. She wrote: “Expectations featuring @chappellroan is out now!!!!
“I love this song and this vid so much! Chappell is the most incredible person and the most inspiring artist and I am so lucky to be able to learn from her and call her a friend.
“Getting to make art with people you love is the best feeling ever and I cannot thank Chappel, @dan_nigro @amyallen and @bardiazeinali enough for helping bring this vision to life.
“And also huge shoutout to @davidbyrneofficial for the most incredible cameo ever!!! I’ve got big expectations baby!!!!!!”
Reports previously suggested that Olivia and Chappell's collaboration took shape after the pair reunited at Olivia's Daisy Chain Fields festival this summer.
A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: “Olivia and Chappell have been friends for a long time through producer and songwriter Dan Nigro, who has been a close collaborator of them both.
“It’s been over a year since Chappell last released music because she’s been taking time away from the spotlight and has quietly been working on new tracks.
“But they reconnected in August at Olivia’s Daisy Chain Fields festival, which they both performed at, and they decided to work together. Chappell loves the message of the song and the version they’ve made together is magic.”
Chappell also revealed that performing at Daisy Chain Fields reminded her of just how much she had missed being on stage.
The singer had not played a live show since May, but her return at the all female festival appeared to reignite her passion for performing.
Following the event, she took to Instagram to thank Olivia for the invitation and praised her fellow pop star for using her influence “for good”.
She wrote: “Thank you for having me @daisychainfields ! @oliviarodrigo u r so inspiring in so many ways. We need artists like u who use their platform for good and are such a light in the world.
“Thank you for being you and supporting artists like me, u have changed my life in so many ways 3 It felt so good to perform again, I didn’t realize how much I missed it. Really lived out my fifth element fantasy.”
