Artist Spotlight: Scott David Roberts

“Wings of Angels” also highlights Roberts’s continued growth as a songwriter. Many of his songs lean toward spirituality and reflections on life, shaped by the losses he has experienced. His work often explores hope, faith, and the human experience from different angles. Despite the emotional intensity of his writing, composing remains his way of decompressing. He often describes his guitar as his way of unwinding, a space where creative expression becomes a form of healing.

Pulling back the curtain, Scott David Roberts shares what fuels their artistry, the pressure of legacy, and the joy of creating something timeless.

FreshMusicWorld: What's the most inspiring thing that's happened to you in your music career?

Scott David Roberts:
The first time I completed a song in the studio was incredibly inspiring. Hearing something that began as a simple guitar idea turn into a fully produced track was a defining moment—it showed me what my songs could become beyond the initial spark.

FreshMusicWorld: Can you tell us about a song or album that you've always wanted to cover, and why?

Scott David Roberts: I’ve never really been drawn to covering other artists’ music. I’ve always felt more connected to creating my own voice. That said, I deeply admire the musicians I grew up listening to, and I’m inspired by their level of skill and musical instinct.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you approach writing songs that are meant to be anthems or crowd-pleasers?

Scott David Roberts: I don’t approach songwriting with the intention of writing an anthem or fitting a specific style. I let the song lead the process. Each song seems to reveal what it wants to be, and my job is to listen and follow that direction honestly.

FreshMusicWorld: What's the most important thing to you when it comes to creating a sense of atmosphere or mood in your music?

Scott David Roberts: For me, it’s the combination of meaningful lyrics and original chord progressions. When those two elements connect naturally, the mood takes care of itself. I think “Wings of Angels” is a strong example of that balance.

FreshMusicWorld: Do you have a favorite song or album that you've written, and what makes it special to you?

Scott David Roberts: “Ballad of Beelzebul” stands out for me. The chords and lyrics work together in a way that feels effortless, and the production and vocal performance captured exactly what I imagined for the song.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received about your music?

Scott David Roberts: A friend of my girlfriend once emailed me to say she was listening to one of my songs while preparing for the NYC Marathon and that it gave her inspiration. Knowing my music could motivate someone during such a personal challenge meant a lot to me.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you stay true to yourself while evolving as an artist?

Scott David Roberts: I try to stay grounded by reading and learning about inspiring people—especially those who’ve made a positive impact on the world. Their stories remind me why honesty and purpose matter, both in music and in life.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s your favorite part of the recording process?

Scott David Roberts: I love the entire recording process. It’s incredible hearing songs come to life and evolve in unexpected ways. Even when I think I know where a song is going, the studio often reveals something new.

FreshMusicWorld: Have you ever written a song that was difficult to record? If so, why?

Scott David Roberts: Yes—“The Light.” No matter what I tried, it never quite felt right. The chord progressions just didn’t sit the way I wanted them to, and sometimes you have to accept when a song resists being finished.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you maintain a sense of authenticity in your work and personal life?

Scott David Roberts: If a song starts to feel forced or contrived, I step away from it. Sometimes I’ll abandon it entirely, and other times I’ll keep only the strongest parts and let them find a home in another song. Being honest about what works—and what doesn’t—is key.
