Lil Yachty is clearing up rumors about his supposed involvement in the delay of “At The Gates,” the unreleased track by Drake and Lil Uzi Vert. After fans began suggesting that he may have had a hand in preventing the song from coming out, the Atlanta rapper made it clear he was not responsible for holding it back.
“The truth of the matter was that it was a crazy sample… It was a Whitney Houston sample,” Yachty said. He pointed toward possible sample clearance complications as the real reason the song never officially dropped. "People gotta understand, The Boy’s a grown man."
Yachty also responded to claims that he had any control over Drake’s choices. "I said something about the record because I have a verse on it,” he explained. "I don’t know why people think I was the person influencing him to do all these things."
"At The Gates" originally appeared online in 2021 and quickly turned into one of the most talked about unreleased songs among fans. Despite the excitement around it, the track never got an official release, which led to plenty of theories about what might have been happening behind the scenes.
According to Yachty, the reality is much simpler than what people online have been suggesting. He made it clear the situation was never something he controlled.
It is still unclear why some fans believed Yachty was behind the delay. Some theories have pointed to supposed issues between him and Uzi, although Yachty has repeatedly said there is no conflict.
During a livestream with PlaqueBoyMax last year, he shared a recent interaction with Uzi to show there was no tension between them.
"He was in the car," he said. "I opened his car door, and I was like, 'My bad.' He was like, 'Wrong car.' And I said, 'Okay,' and I closed the door. I ain't got no problem with him."
Even so, many fans remain skeptical and continue to believe he played a role in the situation. For now, it is still unclear if the track will ever see an official release.
