Artist Spotlight: Calebdoee

Calebdoee’s Corleone: Part II is a hip-hop project inspired by The Godfather, using Michael Corleone’s story as a mirror for his own life, choices, and growth. It blends boom bap and modern production while maintaining a calm, cohesive sound and explores themes of struggle, ambition, and self-awareness.

“World is Mine” closes the project by emphasizing balance between present circumstances and future goals, while “Blues” introduces themes of resilience and reflection. Relationships are explored through “Apollonia (Apple of My Eye)” and “2012 Love Story,” highlighting ideal love versus its complex reality and lasting impact.

The project showcases a range in sound while staying cohesive, with intentional sequencing that creates a clear emotional and narrative journey.

We had the privilege of sitting down with Calebdoee for an intimate conversation on music, meaning, and evolution.

FreshMusicWorld: Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics and melodies?

Calebdoee: My everyday life is where I draw my inspiration from; my family, friends, I network every day, all day, so I’m always experiencing new ventures and people, and lyrically I can spin those experiences into music. Melodies come from the beats, having a good ear gives me the direction I wanna take it. I listen to more R&B than rap too, it adds another layer of emotion as well as adding a good ear to how I wanna make the song sound like.

FreshMusicWorld: Can you walk us through your typical songwriting process?

Calebdoee: I usually freestyle songs, edit the bars, and get a good idea of where I wanna take it. It shows me how the beat makes me feel which’ll take the song where it needs to be sonically, it doesn’t take me very long to make any kind of music but I try to make the best song I can every time.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you decide on the theme or concept for an album?

Calebdoee: Going through life, it sounds simple, but I rarely try to make the best songs, but the best project with whatever I’m feeling or what I’m going through. If I threw out 15 songs, it may not push the message I want, and that’s more important than temporarily feeding the people what they want.

FreshMusicWorld: Have you experimented with different genres or styles in your music?

Calebdoee: Yeah, I have a project done that won’t come out for a long time, but it's a different genre. Still rapping on it, but a side listeners don’t hear often. Something they definitely need to hear, though.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s your favorite part of the recording process?

Calebdoee: Definitely peacing it together, making it fluent. It’s important that it sticks for everybody, which is becoming a lost art in rap. If I can change anything permanently for hip-hop, it’s bloated projects that are songs for people to hear rather than making pieces of art.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you stay motivated to keep creating music?

Calebdoee: My surroundings keep me motivated, making sure my close circle is good, wanting to better the city, I think about that stuff every day. Big factor of what keeps me going, as well as being thankful for what I have now but also knowing I can improve it as well.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you handle criticism and feedback on your music?

Calebdoee: I honestly don’t. If I’m more worried about perception and what people think, I won’t stay true to my mission. There’s very, very few people I’ll take their opinion into account and even then I have to figure out why they say what they’re saying.

FreshMusicWorld: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received about making music?

Calebdoee: Never forget what got you here. Lord knows what I’ve been through, and it has shaped me to be a better person, let alone what it did for me in the heat of the moment. One of my biggest blessings is retaining that mentality in those kinds of situations.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you see your music evolving in the next few years?

Calebdoee: If I stay locked in, it’ll take me to heights I’ve prayed for since I was a kid. Knowing my passion and skill, the sky has always been the limit for me. Lyrically, I’ll improve, mentally, I’ll improve, gives me a feeling that if I keep God first, I can’t lose.

FreshMusicWorld: How do you stay true to yourself while evolving as an artist?

Calebdoee: Keeping God and my family first, those are the only experiences that matter in this world. My music keeps me sharp; that’s where I speak the most about what’s happening. Not much gossip or speculation; but the blessings I’ve been given put me in the situations I’m in.
