Emerging songwriter Donna Deee brings poetry to life with AI-driven psychedelic rock in her latest single, “Ask alice.” Focusing on life experience, emotion, and vivid storytelling, Donna Deee delivers a thought-provoking song that will resonate with fans from all over.
Raised in a household filled with musical talent, Donna Deee grew to love the arts from an early age. Her father was a dancer who danced with — and worked alongside — Fred Astaire; he also loved music. Her mother loved to sing. Together, they guided Donna Deee down an artistic path, embracing music.
“I was always into music,” says Donna Deee, recalling early days behind a drum set her mother hoped she would set aside for a quieter hobby. From drums to piano to guitar, Donna Deee’s musical journey evolved organically, providing an outlet for communication.
Though communication didn’t always come easily, lyrics became her outlet. “If I couldn’t find the words, I’d find the lyrics,” she quotes a well-known sentiment. “It was always the lyrics for me.” Even when her father didn’t like her modern music, they would listen to the lyrics together.
After navigating major life chapters — including military service, divorce, and the loss of both parents — Donna Deee began channeling her experiences into writing. “I saw the world changing,” she says. “So, I took all that and kept journals. For me, writing has been a passion. I took some of that poetry and turned it into songs.”
“Every song I’ve written comes from a place I’ve visited in life,” tells Donna Deee. “Love, love that’s been wanted, sadness, pain, loss – the lyrics come from a place of experience deep in my heart. I need a place to put all my emotions.” The catalyst to begin writing music came after the passing of Donna Deee’s mother. It was then she sought refuge from her pain in music writing.
“My hope is to write relatable songs,” she shares. “’Ask alice’ is one of my songs that people get because we’re all living in a crazy world — a place where some of us don’t fit in.”
Harnessing the power of AI for help in the areas of music writing she’s still developing, Donna Deee began translating her poetry into music. “I’m a songwriter, so some of the songs began as a poem,” she shares. “One night, I saw an ad for a local songwriter’s circle. I grew up in the age of collaboration, when it took four people in a band to write a song, whereas people do that on their own now. So, I went to the circle with two songs, not yet completed, to see if someone could point me in the right direction.”
The poem version of “Ask alice” was a hit with her songwriting circle, prompting Donna Deee to complete the project, adding melody and life.
“AI came up with a stunning song I can’t wait to bring to life on my own and take to the studio when I’m able to do it myself,” shares Donna Deee.
In addition to “Ask alice,” Donna Deee is working alongside a local band in the studio and hopes to incorporate their collaboration into an album. She also has a handful of singles on Spotify, as well as three music videos.
Among her collaborations with AI are a song about wishing for life, set within the genre of rock, country, and Christian music, and a rap song Donna Deee looks forward to being able to perform on her own. “My latest creation comes from a quote from my father. I recently visited Universal in Florida on my own and recalled what my father said during our visit when I was a child — ‘Don’t be in a such a hurry to grow up.’ We’re always in a rush to get out of the house, get to our first job, get married, have our first kid. We’re wishing our lives away. Then you’re in your 60s visiting Disney by yourself. It was lonely, and my father was right. I wish I’d slowed down a little. There’s nothing like that first-time feeling, and that’s the name of my new song we are working on now.”
“Ask alice” is available on all streaming platforms, with promotional support from Starlight PR.
