From viral TikToks, to global Top 40 charts, to the lips of the Jamaican Prime Minister in a nationally televised debate, “Dansa” has been everywhere over the past 15 months.
The soca track by Miami-based artist Klassik Frescobar is on a run for the ages. But it almost never saw the light of day.
Originally recorded in 2023 with a beat by Queens-based St. Lucian producer DJ Kalli, “Dansa” sat on the shelf. In 2025, Frescobar knew it was now or never.
The song is based around the playful idea that alcohol can change your perceptions of your dancing abilities. As the lyrics say, “Rum turn me to a dansa.”

As Frescobar says, “Everyone wants to feel like a big dansa.”
According to socarecords.com, “Dansa” was the second-biggest soca track of 2025. This placing is all the more impressive when considering that “Dansa” did not go through the usual soca success channels. No Carnival campaigns, label pushes, or big radio promotions.
Instead, Klassik Frescobar pushed the song through the modern version of grassroots marketing: TikTok.
One video went viral. Then another. Then came a music video, shot (fittingly) outside of a liquor store in Ft. Lauderdale. It racked up 16 million views. Then another music video in New York City, which garnered millions more. On Spotify the single surpassed 14 million streams (and counting).
Soon after that came the concert engagements, and a very public shoutout from Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness. In a nationally televised debate last August, Dr. Holness began one of his statements, “There is a song that says, ‘When the rum tells you you’re a big dancer.’”
That Jamaican connection came full circle for Klassik Frescobar. His Jamaican father helped shape his interest in Caribbean music – one viral video shows the artist sitting on the stoop with dad, who is listening to (and thoroughly enjoying) “Dansa” for the first time.
Another strong Caribbean influence on Klassik Frescobar is St. Lucian music. Exposure to this culture came from extended family members from that island as well as musical collaborators like Sal Infrared, DJ Boogy Rankss, and DJ Kalli.
Those connections help explain the musical lineage of Klassik Frescobar’s hit single. “Dansa” is part of the Dennery Segment Soca subgenre which is associated with St. Lucia.
Featuring the familiar long-long-short syncopated Caribbean rhythm, the track’s accompaniment is sparse. Using simplicity as its strength, “Dansa” is built on mainly drums and voice. These components are layered into a relentlessly catchy final track, mixed and mastered by Frescobar himself.
The message of “Dansa” translates in any language.

Beyond the Caribbean, “Dansa” has also caught fire in Europe and Africa. It became the first soca track on the France Spotify Viral 100 in a decade, holding its place for 40 days. It reached number 2 on Spotify’s Viral Nigeria chart, and number 1 in Sierra Leone.
The song went number 1 on the iTunes (World) chart in countries from Uganda to Switzerland. Its success also earned Frescobar a spot in Spotify UK's “Carnival Sounds” campaign, where his image appeared on London billboards promoting soca music during Notting Hill Carnival.
And it all began with a couple of viral videos. With an education in music business as well as music production, Klassik Frescobar is data-driven when it comes to promoting his music. He posted the first “Dansa” videos on TikTok, and says, “Once I saw the spike in TikTok and streams and views, I knew that was the song to apply my resources to.”
Klassik Frescobar is devoted to his live audiences, saying, “I want people to leave with an experience, not just a karaoke session. I’m very fan-oriented.”
Onstage, he is a force to be reckoned with. Picture hanging from the rafters and leading crowd sing-alongs. One viral video shows him being pulled into the audience by a mob of female fans.
Frescobar’s touring schedule is active. On the success of “Dansa” he has performed in England, France, West Africa, and New York. Having just returned from Greece, he is now gearing up for a run through the Caribbean, including Barbados, the Bahamas, and Guyana.
In addition to touring, this year Klassik Frescobar is exploring collaborations with other artists. He says, “All of last year I didn’t collaborate with any other artists. This year I just wanted to spread my wings.”
