Blige, TLC, Monica, and countless others, and genre-defining visuals that still influence music videos today… what more can be said about Missy outside of “she would not lose a VERZUZ, should she ever decide to do it.”
Flanked by both Lizzo and Ciara, who helped induct her, Missy saluted her own “godmothers” of hip hop: Angie Stone, Queen Lafitah, Monie Love, Roxanne Shanté, MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, Sha-Rock, and Salt-n-Pepa during her emotional speech. “Y’all are the backs that we stand on. Y’all are the foundation,” she said.
