EXCLUSIVE - Project Pat has fondly recalled the late Mac Miller, remarking that the “Good News” MC was “really talented.”
In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, which dropped on Saturday (November 11), the Memphis native reflected on the first time meeting Mac (real name Malcolm James McCormick), and how their bond was an instant one.
“I just started hitting him up,” Pat said. “And then I just started listening to his stuff, and I said, ‘dude is really, really talented.’ Like, he’s hard. I bought his CDs and everything.”
He continued: “I supported him, one million percent. I mess with dude. He’s hard. I liked his lane. See, I like people to do their own thing.”

In 2013, the pair collaborated on a track called “Weed Smoke.”
Back in March, Ariana Grande — who dated the Pittsburgh native from September 2016 until May 2018 — paid tribute to the fallen rapper, who died from an accidental overdose at just 26 years old.
Grande burst onto the scene with her breakthrough hit, 2013’s “The Way,” which boasts a feature from Mac Miller. On March 26, an Ariana Grande fan account (@honeymoonavenue) posted a clip of the music video in honor of its 10-year anniversary.
The “Positions” singer reposted the video to her Instagram stories, writing in the post’s caption, “I love you.”
Following its release, “The Way” became Grande and Miller’s first top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100. It was eventually certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
This wasn’t the first time Ariana paid tribute to her late ex. In 2020, the singer teamed up with Thundercat — also a friend and collaborator of Miller’s — to perform “Them Changes” for the Adult Swim Festival. Thundercat called the collaboration “part of the healing process,” noting that he and Grande are “forever connected through Mac.”
Project Pat has shouted out stars of Mac’s generation before. Back in 2021, he showed some love to Cardi B for her “Bickenhead” single, which sampled the Memphis rapper’s classic “Chickenhead” song.
“It was a real good thing, a real good look. Shout out to her, man,” Project Pat said. “I was a Cardi B fan when she was on Instagram talking crazy so yeah, I was loving that, we love that.”
