Britney Spears has claimed that there is “no justice” after being left to foot the bill of $2million in legal fees following her conservatorship battle.

A judge ruled that Spears should be made to pay the legal fees of her estranged father, Jamie, following the battle around her conservatorship – with the costs amounting to the equivalent of £1.6million.

The period ranges between 2008 and 2021, when the pop star was under her father’s strict conservatorship, and the judge’s ruling brings an end to the long-running dispute. However, the singer has been left frustrated by the decision, and took to Instagram to share her views.

Writing on the platform yesterday (April 28) – two days after the settlement was publicly announced – Britney wrote: “My family hurt me!!! There has been no justice and probably never will be!!! The people who sat and did absolutely nothing when they did that for four months are smooth sailing!!!”

She continued: “The way I was brought up I was always taught the formative of right and wrong but the very two people who brought me up with that method hurt me !!! I am so lucky to be here!!!”

“It’s funny ‘cus till this very day I haven’t told them face to face!!! I text through IG but I honestly believe it will not be so safe if I ever did go face to face so !!!” she added, explaining how she hasn’t spoken to her parents face-to-face since the case.

“The child in me knows they would be destroyed and that’s basically it!!! I do miss my home in Louisiana and I wish I could visit but they took everything!!!”

The post was later removed from her Instagram page.

The ‘Toxic’ singer has repeatedly accused her family members of wrongdoing during her conservatorship, which ran for 13 years and was ultimately terminated in November 2021, following the widespread #FreeBritney movement.

She also wrote about the circumstances in her memoir The Woman In Me. “I became a robot. But not just a robot – a sort of child-robot. I had been so infantilised that I was losing pieces of what made me feel like myself,” she wrote in one passage (via LBC).

“The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me… The woman in me was pushed down for a long time. They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time.”

Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, shared a statement on Friday (April 26), following the judge’s decision: “Although the conservatorship was terminated in November, 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete,” he said (via Music News).

“As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.”

Following the release of her memoir, the ‘00s pop icon has been sharing various updates with fans via social media, including rehashing her beef with ex Justin Timberlake and teasing an upcoming project titled ‘Sex & Diamonds’.
