Deafheaven have announced their new album ‘Lonely People With Power’ and shared its heavy single ‘Magnolia’.

‘Magnolia’ sees the American post-metal band return to their hardcore roots, featuring thrashing drums, heavy and gritty guitars and George Clarke’s screeching and powerful vocals as he sings: “Warm winds blow / Secrets we die with / Trembling weakness is what haunts us now.”

Directed by Sean Stout and Chelsea Jade, ‘Magnolia’s accompanying music video sees the band perform the track in a dark, hazy room.

The song serves as the lead single to their forthcoming album ‘Lonely People With Power’ which is set for release on March 28. The LP marks their first release under their new label home of Roadrunner Records. You can pre-order and pre-save the album here.

The album was recorded with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (St. Vincent, M83) and mixed by Zach Weeks of GodCity Studio. ‘Lonely People With Power’ was tracked at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, California and features additional vocal contributions from Boy Harsher’s Jae Matthews and Interpol‘s Paul Banks – the latter of which they served as opening support during the Chicago date of their recent ‘Antics’ 20th anniversary tour.

A press release has described ‘Lonely People With Power’ as the band’s “most ambitious release yet.”

Deafheaven’s ‘Lonely People With Power’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Incidental I’
2. ‘Doberman’
3. ‘Magnolia’
4. ‘The Garden Route’
5. ‘Heathen’
6. ‘Amethyst’
7. ‘Incidental II’
8. ‘Revelator’
9. ‘Body Behavior’
10. ‘Incidental III’
11. ‘Winona’
12. ‘The Marvelous Orange Tree’

The album follows their last album which was 2021’s ‘Infinite Granite‘. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “These songs treat the band’s black metal fans to a few, short-lived angry screams, but on an album where shoegaze reigns supreme, they feel out of sync.

“It’s a bold move, five albums in, to choose a singular sonic path that could alienate half your fanbase – but then again, Deafheaven have always been a band known for extremes. The risk here pays dividends. It’s their most ambitious and cohesive album to date and embracing their shoegaze selves brings renewal: for a band known for torment and chaos, it’s a joy to hear them sounding so hopeful.”

Elsewhere, the band are set to embark on a run of festival dates later this summer. Check out a full list of dates below and visit here to purchase tickets.
