Official footage has been shared of David ByrneArcade Fire and St. Vincent teaming up for a rendtion of David Bowie‘s ‘Heroes’ during the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Saturday Night Live.

Dressed in a black suit and red turtleneck, Byrne kicked off the performance by taking on the first verse of the track. St. Vincent – sporting a light pink dress and playing a white version of her signature Ernie Ball Musicman guitar – took on the second verse, while Arcade Fire’s Win Butler sang the third.

The group then got together to sing the rest of the song, including its iconic bridge: “We can be heroes / Just for one day”. Check out the full performance below.

Arcade Fire had a great friendship with Bowie, starting when the rock icon showed up alongside Byrne to the indie band’s first headlining gig in NYC at the intimate Bowery Ballroom.

Bowie would then go on to join Arcade Fire for a performance of the band’s ‘Wake Up’ at Radio City Music Hall. In 2013, the icon also provided backing vocals for Arcade Fire’s track ‘Reflektor’.

Elsewhere at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary celebrations, the surviving members of Nirvana teamed up with Post Malone for a rendition of the band’s legendary track ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

The night also saw Byrne join Robyn for a surprise rendition of ‘Dancing On My Own’ as well as  performances from the likes of Backstreet BoysBad BunnyBrandi CarlileChris MartinJack WhiteLady GagaMiley Cyrus and more.

SNL also celebrated the huge milestone with a star-studded episode which saw Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon kicked off the show with ‘Homeward Bound’ – which the latter had performed on the show with George Harrison in 1976. The episode wrapped up with an ‘Abbey Road’ medley performed by Paul McCartney.
