Scissor SistersPerfume GeniusGarbage, and more have reacted to the UK high court’s controversial gender ruling – find resources for the trans community below.

On Wednesday (April 16), judges unanimously ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex. Though Judge Lord Hodge stressed the ruling was not a “triumph of one or more groups in our society at the expense of another”, the decision will undoubtedly impact transgender communities across the country.

Now, various figures in the entertainment world have reacted to the news and lent their support to the trans community. Scissor Sisters called the decision “deeply upsetting”, adding:”We recognise the pain and fear it causes”.

Meanwhile, Perfume Genius wrote that he was “so sorry and heartbroken and cannot imagine how scary and overwhelming things have been. I love you”. Garbage shared a photo with the words “Queer Trans Resistance” on their Instagram, writing in the caption: “We love you. You exist. You always have. You win.”

Rachel ChinouririLambrini GirlsBilly BraggJADE, and more have also also weighed in on the matter – read on for what they’ve got to say:

In an Instagram story, Lambrini Girls also wrote that “these actions give legitimacy to hate under the guise of law, legally shields bigotry, pushes erasure and silence all whilst pretending it’s a matter of legal interpretation”, adding: “This government continues to demonise trans people as a smokescreen for their own policy failures. Resistance is collective, trans people should not have to fight this alone”.

They also shared a number of resources including charities, helplines and legal clinics, which you can find at the bottom of this article.

Author JK Rowling, who has received significant backlash for her anti-trans comments, also commented on the ruling. “The fact that so many UK trans activists are shrieking about injustice says it all,” she wrote. “You never had the rights you claim you’ve now lost; you had demands. Your sense of entitlement grew unchecked because cowards and idiots bowed down to your campaign of intimidation. No longer.”

Rowling’s tweet has garnered pushback from the likes of Mae Muller, who replied: “Celebrate now but just know that trans women are not going anywhere, they exist no matter what hatred you spew, and your transphobia has made you incredibly incredibly ugly inside and OUT. fucking loser.”

In the US, a similar decision has been made last January, where President Donald Trump ruled that the United States of America will only recognise two sexes, male and female.

Ariana GrandeAurora and more reacted to the policy, with the latter writing: “I am in deep sorrow of how you have been failed by your own government.”

In other news, Lucy Dacus has pledged $10k for trans surgeries after Donald Trump’s gender executive order.
