Garbage have shared a defiant new track called ‘Get Out My Face AKA Bad Kitty’, which tackles the “absolute war on women in America”. Check it out below.

The track marks the second preview of the band’s forthcoming studio album ‘Let All That We Imagine Be The Light’, which is set for release on May 30 and marks the follow-up to 2021’s ‘No Gods No Masters’.

Following on from the politically charged lead single ‘There’s No Future In Optimism’, the latest single sees frontwoman Shirley Manson and co. take aim at the double standards in society, and channel her outrage at how minorities are still being treated in the modern day.

“When I was young, I didn’t really notice how things worked. People like to shuffle older women off the lot, because you start to see the chessboard in a way you didn’t when you were younger,” Manson explained of the inspiration behind the song.

“When you’re young, you’re wanting to get on with your life, have an adventure, do what you love, and you’re conditioned by the society that you grew up in, so a lot of the time you don’t see what’s going on,” she added. “Then, as you get older, you start to see how things are stacked up against some of us – not all of us.  I am outraged by the way the world treats blacks and browns and gays and trans peoples and animals and women.”

“Living in America over the last couple of years, the absolute war on women in America is astounding,” she added. “All the rights that we felt had been secured are starting to get pushed back into the Middle Ages. It is something that I can no longer tolerate silently. It’s not just infuriating, it’s alarming. It’s frightening.”

That sense of frustration and resilience is unmissable in the track, with Manson effortlessly delivering sharp-tongued lyrics amid the sonic backdrop of driving bass and ‘90s-inspired guitars.

“We’ve got no time for your fragile ego/We’ve nothing to explain, nothing to justify/ We have no interest in people like you,” she sings. “Fairness is meaningless, you have your prejudice/ You loathe sweetness, and you call it weakness/ You cling to all your hate, we tremble and we shake/ Like trees, we bend, you won’t break us”.

News of ‘Let All That We Imagine Be The Light’ was first shared back in February, and will mark the eighth studio album from Garbage. You can visit here to pre-order.

The topics discussed in the latest single also align with the recent comments shared by Manson, who called out an article that contained “weaponised” language about her appearance. Last month, Manson shared a screenshot of a Daily Mail article that claimed the rock band looked “unrecognisable” in new album promo photos.

“What is THIS supposed to mean?!? The Druids look almost exactly the same as they have always done for 30 years so I can’t help thinking this is directed at me,” she shared. “Look – I’m nearly 60 years old. Of course I’m not going to look anything like my late 20s self?!?”
“Quite honestly I think it would be a bit creepy if I did but hey that’s just me,” she added. “Either way – this kind of language is weaponised to put a woman like me in my place.”

As well as gearing up to share the new album, Garbage are ready to embark on their first headline US tour dates in 10 years. Visit here to find a list of dates and more details, and here for tickets.

Speaking about the forthcoming record, last year saw Manson tell NME that Garbage were “looking for shards of life and humanity” while in the writing process.

“Going into this next record, I feel a shift,” Manson added. “I’m trying to dampen my outrage. As a society, we’ve become so beaten down and broken-hearted. I’m trying to reach for something that’s a little bigger than me, because if I don’t then I’m going to drown in my own dismay.”
