Lorde has teased her upcoming tour with fans and said that it “could be our masterpiece”.

It comes as the Kiwi singer recently announced her comeback with the new single ‘What Was That?’, and went on to share that it was the first preview of her highly-anticipated fourth album ‘Virgin’.

Yesterday (May 8), she took things up a notch, revealing that she would be hitting the road again later this year for some headline tour dates across the UK, Europe and North America. These kick off in September with the US shows beginning in Austin, Texas, and run through to December, where the tour wraps up with a final stop in Stockholm in December.

Special guests for the shows include The Japanese HouseNilüfer Yanya, Chanel Beads, Empress Of and Oklou, as well as Blood Orange – with Devonte Hynes featuring on the album – and co-producer Jim-E Stack.

Now, Lorde has shared another update with fans, promising that the upcoming performances could be some of the most memorable yet. In the tour email sent to fans, the singer shared: “I am going on tour in support of my new album, ‘Virgin’. Every show I play is a collaboration between you and me. We meet in a room and we make music together, our bodies and the machines in search of something bigger together.”

She continued: “12 years of meeting up and making sound that’s just for us. Since last time, I’ve been stripping away unnecessary layers, finding us more room to move. I think that Ultrasound could be our masterpiece.”

While specific details about how the live shows could look remain under wraps for now, Lorde has some high expectations to meet if she is going to make the 2025 tour the biggest one yet. This comes as two of her previous tours are already regarded as the magnum opus by fans, and will be hard to top.

Back in 2017, for example, her ‘Melodrama’ tour saw her make a Glastonbury debut. Here, she turned heads by performing inside a large perspex box, and the show was considered one of “the most conceptual sets ever seen in Pilton’s fields”.

NME praised the set for its ingenuity, and described it as “a masterclass in how to wow a festival crowd”.

Then, while touring in support of the 2021 album ‘Solar Power’, NME gave Lorde a five-star review for her set in Minneapolis and said that the production made it “feel like we’ve been whisked off to another planet”.

The rebooted shows in 2023, performed at the All Together Now festival, were again praised for their attention to detail. “This was a rave in a monastery – a baroque jamboree delivered with fight and bite,” NME shared.
