Gene Simmons revealed he refused to sell his family home to "alcoholics".

The Kiss rocker had strict rules about who could buy his LA mansion.

In particular, Gene, 75, was phobic about party animals buying his house and trashing it.

"You have such wonderful times there, you don't want some schmuck in the place you call home," he told the Wall Street Journal when he first listed the property in April.

"No drugs, no alcoholics. I don't want anybody coming in there who is going to destroy the place."

The four-bedroom, five-bathroom Beverly Hills home was eventually snapped up for twice what Gene and his wife Shannon Tweed Simmons, 68, had asked for.

Listed for $14 million (£10.4 million), the house was offloaded for $28 million (£21 million).

The architect-designed pad featured many of the luxurious trappings of celebrity homes, including a 40-foot infinity pool, 12-foot high ceilings, a home theatre and even a "gallery space".

Gene had previously waxed lyrical about his love of the property.

"My favorite part of the house is waking up in the morning in the upper bedroom, having coffee in bed, and on a clear day being able to see all the way out to the ocean," he shared via a statement when it was first on the market.
