News : Olivia Dean addresses 'crazy' reaction to Nice to Each Other lyrics

Olivia Dean has responded to the "crazy" reaction to the lyrics to her song Nice to Each Other.

Since rising to fame in 2019, the British hitmaker has become renowned for her emotional ballads.

In her 2025 track, Nice To Each Other, Olivia sings the lyrics "I don't want a boyfriend", a line which quickly went viral on social media.

Addressing the reaction, she told ELLE, "It's crazy. I wasn't trying to egg that on. I guess it's a refreshing thing to say out loud."

The 26-year-old then explained that she is "comfortable" being single.

"I'm very comfortable by myself and don't feel like I need to be in a relationship to survive; it should be additional, as opposed to filling an absence," she shared.

Olivia went on to note that she has become "quite protective" of herself.

"It's a really beautiful skill to love openly and easily, but sometimes it can get you into trouble," she told the publication. "I don't take any s**t from people. Definitely not as much as I would have done when I was younger."

The Dive hitmaker added, "I know my worth and how I deserve to be loved. I have no time for bulls**t."

Elsewhere in the interview, Olivia explained that performing didn't come naturally to her and "took a lot of practice".

To help her gain confidence, the singer learned to reframe nerves as excitement and trained at the BRIT School, where she met her bandmates.
