FKA Twigs has said she is ready to move forward with her life after reaching a settlement in her sexual battery lawsuit against her former partner Shia LaBeouf.
The British singer-songwriter, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, filed a case against the Transformers actor in December 2020, accusing him of sexual battery, assault and emotional distress.
She alleged that he was physically and emotionally abusive throughout their relationship, which lasted from the middle of 2018 until mid-2019.
Following a lengthy legal process, the two sides came to a private agreement in July, just two months before the trial was due to begin in September.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, Twigs opened up for the first time about the resolution when asked if she feels a sense of safety now that the matter is behind her.
“No, I would not say I feel safe,” she answered, before explaining that she is focused on supporting organisations that assist survivors of abuse.
“I feel strongly about being involved with groups like Sistah Space and No More, doing what I can to help people who have gone through these experiences,” she added. “At this stage, it is less about me and more about moving forward. I just want to keep living my life.”
The lawsuit was resolved for an undisclosed amount, and in July both parties issued a joint statement regarding the decision.
“Determined to create a constructive way ahead, we have agreed to settle our case privately,” the statement read. “Although the terms of the settlement will remain confidential, we wish one another personal happiness, success in our work, and peace in the future.”
Twigs is now in a relationship with filmmaker and photographer Jordan Hemingway. LaBeouf, meanwhile, reunited with actress Mia Goth in 2021, and the couple welcomed their first child in March 2022.
