London’s loudest sibling pairing is officially beginning the countdown to their debut era. Today, The Molotovs shared their newest digital release, “Get A Life,” kicking off an intense “Month of Molotovs” campaign ahead of their long awaited first album, Wasted On Youth via Marshall Records.
Running for less than two minutes, “Get A Life” hits hard and fast with pure punk energy. As the album’s opening track, it lays out the band’s attitude in no uncertain terms and introduces teenage siblings Matt Cartlidge, 17, and Issey Cartlidge, 19, at full throttle. The track arrives after a strong run of top ten singles including “More More More,” “Today’s Gonna Be Our Day,” and “Rhythm Of Yourself.”
“It’s a punk song,” says frontman Matt Cartlidge. “We love Buzzcocks, The Libertines, The Jam, and the Pistols. It’s pretty angry, pretty pointed—and I can’t possibly tell you who it’s directed at!”
From Grassroots to Global Stages
Even at a young age, The Molotovs already have serious live experience under their belts, with more than 600 shows played so far. That tireless schedule has seen them take the stage alongside major names such as Blondie, The Libertines, and Iggy Pop.
Although they have toured across the United States and performed for huge audiences, the group continues to place huge importance on the UK’s grassroots music circuit. Last year, they fronted a key fundraiser for the Music Venue Trust at Bush Hall, a space they were personally involved in helping protect from shutting down.
“The UK has a history of producing the greatest rock acts in the world,” notes bassist Issey Cartlidge. “But without these vital venues, artists will struggle to break through.”
The Wasted On Youth UK Tour
In support of the album, the band are launching a major UK tour this week, beginning at King Tuts on January 6. The schedule takes in renowned venues such as The Cavern and Thekla, before wrapping up with a series of small record store shows in February.
Wasted On Youth is available to preorder now through Marshall Records.
