Madonna is reportedly exploring plans for a special UK performance to mark the arrival of her upcoming album.
The 67 year old pop icon is preparing to release Confessions II on July 3 and recently thrilled fans with an unexpected concert in New York's Times Square. The surprise appearance drew an estimated crowd of 50,000 people, and sources suggest she is hoping to recreate that excitement with a similar event in Britain.
A source told The Sun: “Performing is everything to Madonna and she is going all out to make sure this era is one of her greatest.
“Her last run of shows were all about her legacy, but now she’s reinvigorated to be an innovator.
“She’s currently mulling over a number of live show options for a handful of dates. A full scale world tour is not in the works.”
Madonna's most recent UK performance took place at London's O2 in October 2023 during her extensive 81 date Celebration Tour.
During the surprise New York show, she also unveiled her latest single, Love Sensation, giving fans its live debut before making it available on streaming services later that same day.
The event, which was staged in collaboration with the LGBTQ+ dating app Grindr, marked the first occasion Madonna has performed songs from Confessions II in front of an audience.
In addition to Love Sensation, the singer performed I Feel So Free and Bring Your Love, her collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter. She also revisited several favorites from Confessions on a Dance Floor, including Hung Up, Get Together and I Love New York, which received an enthusiastic response from the crowd.
Fans across the globe were able to watch the performance through Grindr's first livestream event, transforming Times Square into a giant dance party that reached audiences far beyond New York.
Excitement surrounding Love Sensation has been growing since April, when Madonna unexpectedly appeared at a club in West Hollywood and producer Stuart Price previewed part of the track during one of his DJ sets.
Her latest collection of dance focused releases is already proving successful commercially. I Feel So Free recently climbed to the top of Billboard's Dance Airplay Chart, while Bring Your Love has reached the number one spot on the UK Club Chart.
Madonna appears determined to challenge the idea that dance music has lost its cultural impact.
After Charli xcx suggested that the “dancefloor is dead”, the Vogue star shared a series of disco inspired photos on Instagram alongside a message that many interpreted as a direct response: “If your Dance Floor feels dead Maybe you’re playing the wrong music.”
