Kanye West is reportedly looking to bring Lil Durk to G.O.O.D. Music and buy the Chicago rapper out of his record deal.
According to a source who spoke to TMZ, Ye is “in talks” to buy Lil Durk — who was signed to Def Jam before going independent and joining the Alamo Records team in the summer of 2018 — out of his current record deal at 300/Alamo Records.
The report alleges that 300 CEO Todd Moscowitz refused to clear another Durk verse — separate from his recent “Vultures” appearance with Kanye — for Yeezy’s upcoming album, which caused some friction between the OTF boss and the label.
When Ye’s “Vultures” with Ty Dolla $ign, Bump J and Durk was initially premiered earlier this month on WPWX Power 92 Chicago, Durkio’s verse was present but when the track landed on streaming services his bars were nowhere to be found.
However, they eventually righted the situation and Lil Durk’s vocals were added on streaming platforms on Thanksgiving.
The 31-year-old was signed to Def Jam before going independent and joining the Alamo Records team in the summer of 2018.
Talks to get Lil Durk out of his record deal may have intensified this past week with Durk spending time with Kanye West in Dubai. Durk brought out Kanye, Ty Dolla $ign and Bump J during his club appearance over the weekend where they performed the live debut of “Vultures.”
According to Kanye West’s longtime manager John Monopoly in a statement to HipHopDX, Ye called for a joint tour between the four artists. “We need the world tour,” Ye is said to have teased.
West and Smurk have worked together in the past. They both guested on Cardi B’s “Hot Shit” and Lil Durk appeared on Donda cut “Jonah” alongside Vory in 2021.
Lil Durk also revealed during an appearance on Akademiks’ Off the Record podcast that Ye did a whole other version of his Almost Healed album that he scrapped earlier this year.
“He actually did my whole album,” Durk said of Ye. “But I ain’t use it … He, like, tweaked with the beat, he put some vocals behind some beats. He played with a couple records. I’ma say that, he played with a couple records … He did some genius shit.”
He added: “I had went to the hotel where he was at. He was actually in a good head space. I guess all the bullshit that was going on with him was getting to him, but he definitely in a good space.”
