Tech N9ne has become the latest in a series of Hip Hop pioneers to be honored with a major hometown accolade.

On Saturday (December 2) the rapper (real name Aaron Dontez Yates) shared that he’s been awarded with a proclamation in Kansas City, Missouri by Mayor Quinton Lucas.

“Yesterday! 1. Mayor @quinton_lucas put on one of my @chiefs @strangemusicinc @prostandard and @nfl collaboration jackets and read my PROCLAMATION CERTIFICATE to me. [mind blown emoji],” he wrote on Instagram, alongside a video montage featuring snaps from the special ceremony.

“2. I went up to tell my story in speech style within 3 minutes. 3. The wonderful and respectful City council members gave me some really kind words of their own and shook every one of their hands with gratitude,” he added.

He continued: “4.I posed with my PROCLAMATION CERTIFICATE then with my partner @strangemusicceo then another with him my uncle Ike and my friend and colleague who hooked this whole thing up @seantylerkc and I had the pleasure of congratulating the @east_kcps boys soccer team on their WIN. WHAT AN HONOR KC! THANK YOU! [praying hands emoji].”

On the music front, the Strange Music MC recently dropped “Fatha Fig Ya,” a nod to all patriarchs ahead of Father’s Day, last June.

The anthem, finds Tech dispensing priceless wisdom packed inside his dexterous and dynamic flow. “Their f-cking failures don’t apply to you/ Your life experiences are tried-and-true,” he assures listeners who might be questioning some of the decisions they’ve made.

The track bulldozed the way for the arrival of Tech’s latest full-length album, BLISS, released in July. The project was his first full-length LP since 2021’s ASIN9NE, which garnered nearly half-a-billion streams and touted his most ubiquitous hit yet, “Face Off” featuring Joey Cool, King Iso, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Explaining the depths he and his crew went to in order to bring the song’s video to life, the 51-year-old thanked everyone involved — including the fans featured in the video — for their dedication to the creation of the visuals.

“We shot this vid from 4pm till 2am and I’m so thankful for all the fans that stayed for the duration for the shots we needed and how full of light and life that RMR had throughout the whole process of this ‘Fatha Fig Ya’ production,” the Kansas City rapper said in a press statement. “L9ve and respect to all involved.”
