As if we needed 2020 to end on an even more trash note, it’s been reported that MF DOOM — née Daniel Dumile — has passed away.

His wife, Jasmine, revealed on the musician’s Instagram account that he actually passed away back on October 31, 2020. “Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family,” she wrote. “Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.”

DOOM began his career as Zev Love X, forming the group KMD with his younger brother DJ Subroc, debuting on 3rd Bass’s song “The Gas Face.” Unfortunately, before the release of the second KMD album Black Bastards Subroc was stuck by a car and killed. The group would then be dropped from their label, and Black Bastards shelved (the album would eventually see a release in 2008, nearly 15 years later).

Dumile would step away from the music industry for years, eventually resurfacing as MF DOOM, releasing his critically acclaimed solo debut album Operation: Doomsday in 1999. DOOM had since gone on to collaborate with numerous artists such as Ghostface Killah, Madlib, Danger Mouse, Bishop Nehru, and J Dilla among others.

He was 49.
