Selena Gomez has warmly spoken about her “bestie” Taylor Swift getting engaged.
The Shake It Off star revealed on Tuesday that she is engaged to American football player Travis Kelce after two years together, sharing photos of his romantic proposal in a rose-filled garden.
Selena, who has been a close friend of Taylor since they were teenagers, showed her excitement on Wednesday night by reposting the announcement on her Instagram Stories.
She wrote, “When bestie gets engaged,” adding a heart-filled emoji.
The Love You Like a Love Song singer, who is also engaged, then looked back on how much their friendship has grown since their Twitter exchange about love in 2009.
“Discussing love with two 9-year-olds. That’s what love is supposed to be. Truly amazing, I’m never leaving Canada,” Selena tweeted at the time. Taylor responded, “Real love still happens sometimes. It’s not just something we make up when we’re nine. I have to believe that. You do too.”
A fan later resurfaced the old tweets alongside photos from both of their engagement announcements, writing, “16 years later.”
The Only Murders in the Building actress reshared that post on her Stories and added only an emotional face emoji.
When Selena revealed in December that she was engaged to producer Benny Blanco, Taylor quickly celebrated in the comments by writing, “Yes, I will be the flower girl.”
Billboard reported that Taylor and Travis’s engagement announcement has already broken Instagram records, reaching 1 million reposts in only six hours, more than any other post in the platform’s history.
