Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ legal team has confirmed they plan to appeal his conviction and prison sentence.

The update follows a notice filed on Monday in the Federal District Court of New York.

TMZ reported that the notice names Alexandra Shapiro as Combs’ lawyer, and his team is expected to submit their detailed appeal brief within the next four to six weeks.

The filing did not outline the basis for the appeal, but Combs’ lawyers have previously stated that the conviction should not be upheld because the statute involving transportation for the purposes of prostitution does not apply to his case.

The music mogul was found guilty on two prostitution-related charges after an eight-week trial in July. He was cleared of the sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

On October 3, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to just over four years in federal prison.

Combs has not yet been transferred to a prison and is currently being held at a Brooklyn Detention Centre. Judge Subramanian stated that the Bad Boy Records founder should serve his sentence as close as possible to the New York City metropolitan area.

His lawyers have requested that the court recommend FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, a low-security federal correctional facility, as his designated prison.
