Wheatus frontman Brendan B. Brown has spoken about the possibility of working on music with Ed Sheeran.

In July, the two performed the rock band’s early-2000s hit Teenage Dirtbag alongside Sheeran’s old high school band during a concert in Hamburg, Germany.

Since then, Brown and Sheeran have developed a friendship, even catching up over a pint of Guinness, where they discussed the idea of collaborating in the studio.

In an exclusive interview with ContactMusic.com, Brown praised the Shape of You singer, saying, “He was quite a gentleman. Invited me to be a part of his immense spaceship show, and I was happy to jump up there. Quite honored to be included. And his crew and his people are all really lovely, hard-working.”

The 52-year-old musician also expressed admiration for Sheeran’s stripped-back approach to performing, noting how it sets him apart from other major pop acts.

He said, “It was impressive to see him do those shows. A lot of the pop artists use a lot of safety net mechanisms, backing tracks, or light shows, other distractions, and he’s just raw dogging them shows by himself. Man, it’s just him up there. So it’s kind of crazy to watch that happen.”

When asked if the two plan to record together, Brown hinted that something might be on the horizon. “I think we certainly will. Yeah, I would love to. I talked to him about it yesterday, in fact,” he said.

Brown also mentioned his close friendship with Busted’s James Bourne, who recently had to step back from the Busted vs McFly tour due to health concerns.

He shared, “One of my favorite people on Earth is James Bourne from Busted. He’s my good friend. We’ve been very good friends for a very long time, and I know that he’s been unable to tour with the band at the moment, and I am hopefully looking forward to his return. But I would love to sit and collaborate with my friend James a few more times before we finish these journeys around the sun.”

Wheatus previously teamed up with Busted on a refreshed version of Who’s David 2.0 for the pop-punk group’s 2023 Greatest Hits 2.0 album.

Fans can catch Wheatus live across the UK and Ireland this November and December during their 25th anniversary tour. Remaining tickets are available at www.wheatus.com/shows.
