The Game recently stopped by the Back On Figg podcast and touched on a wide range of subjects, including the latest conversation surrounding Kendrick Lamar. One particular moment caught the attention of Kendrick’s Black Hippy collaborator and “Money Trees” partner Jay Rock, as it centered on Kendrick’s early days and his connection to Top Dawg Entertainment.
To recap the situation, TDE’s head of security 2Teez previously shut down claims that The Game ever intended to sign Kendrick Lamar. During his appearance on Back On Figg, the Compton rapper chose to stand firm on his version of events.
"I let 2Teez stay with me for five years in the beginning of my career," he remarked. "I don't got no issues with nas until they got an issue with me, I don't know what blood's issue is. But whatever... As far as TDE, ask Top Dawg, bro, what it is with me and what it was. You got to ask Kendrick. Let these nas talk. How the fk can a na tell me what I wanted to do? [...] I didn't say I signed Kendrick or had a chance to sign Kendrick... Top Dawg was like, 'Nah, I can't let that na go.' [...] Kendrick damn near the only na I thought about signing... I brought Jay Rock and Kendrick on tour. Anybody that says that I wasn't instrumental or that I didn't put out a helping hand to help nas is a straight lying sucker-a n***a."
As spotted by Certified Boogeyman on Twitter, Jay Rock appeared to respond to The Game’s Kendrick Lamar remarks by posting a GIF featuring an exaggerated and unflattering face. 2Teez also chimed in with a “Peekaboo” comment, seemingly taking another light jab at Jayceon Taylor. That said, both reactions were open to interpretation, so it is best not to read too deeply into them.
Elsewhere in the discussion, the podcast addressed why The Game did not attend Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out.” He explained that gang related issues influenced his decision, though he maintained that he remains on good terms with both Kendrick and Drake.
With plenty of speculation still floating around about Kendrick Lamar and The Game, it remains to be seen whether anything concrete will surface. For now, the situation continues to feel like a back and forth of conflicting stories, even if it remains compelling to watch.
