21 Savage’s new album WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS? has sparked plenty of discussion across hip hop, drawing reactions from artists as well as people who say they once lived that life. The conversation has included supporters like Lil Baby and critics like HoneyKomb Brazy. The Mobile, Alabama rapper had spoken out against the “f**k the streets” sentiment, but recent conversations appear to have shifted his outlook.
As shared by DJ Akademiks on Instagram, HoneyKomb posted an IG Story showing a FaceTime call with Baby and reflected on the exchange. “Man this the realest conversation I had since I been home boy,” he wrote. “@lilbaby u really a real n*a I wish it was more in the game like u. But the talk we just had changed my whole mind set. Im finna stay free n do this music st just like u said [100 emoji].”
After that, the Alabama MC explained that he also spoke directly with Savage and worked through their differing viewpoints. “I can’t lie that bihh @21savage different af,” he wrote on his Instagram Story, as captured by No Jumper on IG. “bra really a real n*a n we talked for hours. I feel where he coming from right is right we can save the streets like u said. That st just came out n ppl took it n ran with it but im on u mean us nun but good u got brazy.”
21 later reposted the message to his own Story with the caption “Traumatized #savethestreets.” HoneyKomb Brazy also claimed that he played Savage a diss track aimed at him, adding that the Atlanta rapper joked Brazy would be banned from the city if it ever surfaced.
HoneyKomb Brazy also mentioned separate friction with Big Bank, who he said canceled an interview following his criticism of the Atlanta based “f**k the streets” movement, though he noted that situation has since been resolved as well. In the end, much of the tension seems to have stemmed from miscommunication and wording.
Ultimately, all of the artists involved appear to share similar goals of building successful careers and taking care of their families. Regardless of where someone lands on the “f**k the streets” debate, the bigger takeaway may be moving past the idea of opposing sides altogether.
