Since the cancellation of Ebro In The Morning, its longtime host Ebro Darden and independent journalist DJ Akademiks have been trading shots publicly. The friction between them did not start there, though. Their issues stretch back further, including moments where they took aim at each other during the very public clash between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Instead of cooling off, the situation seems to be getting more hostile by the day. This week, Akademiks went on a heated rant directed at Ebro and his co host Peter Rosenberg after they appeared to dismiss Charlamagne tha God and his newly announced contract. Earlier this week, Charlamagne finalized a major five year deal worth $200 million with iHeartMedia.
The agreement allows him to stay in his seat on The Breakfast Club while continuing to expand his Black Effect Podcast Network.
Ebro, in particular, was vocal about the situation and suggested he would never compromise himself for a paycheck. “There were things that Charlamagne was willing to do that I would’ve never done. Never. And that’s how you get to those big bags. It’s the same with Stephen A. Smith. When Disney wants to give you money like that, you gotta do a dance I ain’t willing to do,” he said on The Ebro Laura Rosenberg Show.
Those comments quickly reached DJ Akademiks, who responded on his secondary social media account, Akademiks TV.
“Akademiks violates two washed lazy untalented bums Ebum & Rosencuck for hating on Charlamagne getting a $200M deal,” read the caption posted on Akademiks’ alternate account alongside a clip of him criticizing the pair. “Mind you, these are the same r**ards who said they got fired cuz they hate Trump & Israel ?.”
In the video, Akademiks accused Ebro and Peter of being lazy and of tearing down people who are actively putting in work. He claimed this kind of behavior has followed them throughout their careers and questioned why they are not focused on building something new, especially while attempting to rebrand themselves.
Rather than firing back with a lengthy response, Ebro chose to keep it brief. He replied on X to the clip, poking fun at Akademiks for giving him attention. “Promo from a Trump supporter, thanks,” he wrote.
Judging by how things are unfolding, this back and forth does not seem like it will be ending anytime soon.
It will be worth watching how Ebro, Peter, and Laura Stylez continue to move forward after the show’s cancellation. It has been exactly two weeks since Hot 97 pulled the plug on Ebro In The Morning.
The exact reasons behind the decision have yet to be fully explained, though Ebro has already shared his own perspective on why the show came to an end.
