Bon Iver have confirmed they are launching a new archive series titled ‘Volumes’, beginning with the release of a live album.

The upcoming project, called ‘Volumes’, will compile live recordings, demos, unreleased tracks and other rare material from the band’s catalogue. It is scheduled to arrive on April 3 through Jagjaguwar.

The opening release in the series is titled ‘Volumes: One “Selections From Music Concerts 2019-2023 Bon Iver 6 Piece Band”’, and features 10 performances designed to showcase the band at their most expansive.

Speaking about the release, Justin Vernon explained: “This particular set of 10 songs is like, ‘Here, if you’ve never heard Bon Iver, or you have and you didn’t like it, this might be for you.’ This is what we became. This is really us at our best. This is it.”

Vernon first started putting together the project in 2020, going through hours of live recordings to carefully select the final tracklist.

Fans can preview the project through the live recording ‘Heavenly Father – Mediolanum, Milan, It. Nov 05 2022’, which is available now.

This first release in the ‘Volumes’ series will be Bon Iver’s first non studio album, capturing Andrew Fitzpatrick, Jenn Wasner, Justin Vernon, Matthew McCaughan, Michael Lewis and Sean Carey as they perform what are described as definitive versions of these songs for fans.

The recordings largely come from shows between 2019 and 2023, which also marks the period leading up to Bon Iver’s most recent live performances. The material includes songs originally featured on 2016’s ‘22, A Million’ and 2019’s ‘i,i,’.

The concept behind the archive series draws inspiration from Bob Dylan’s Bootleg Series and the Neil Young Archives. The full tracklist for Part One can be found below, and pre orders are available here.

The announcement of the new series follows Bon Iver’s collaboration with Gracie Abrams and Aaron Dessner at the end of 2025 on a charity single dedicated to victims of gun violence.

Titled ‘Sold Out’, the track was released after a shooting at Brown University that left two students dead and nine others injured. It had originally been recorded in 2024 following a separate mass shooting. The song is available exclusively on Bandcamp here, with proceeds supporting the gun control advocacy organisation Everytown.

Bon Iver’s fifth studio album ‘SABLE, fABLE’ was released in April 2025 through Jagjaguwar and later received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.

In a four star review, NME praised the record, which some feared could mark the end of the project, as a “rebirth”.

“Though this is not Bon Iver’s answer to ‘Brat’ summer by any stretch of the imagination, many of these same existential questions also linger on ‘SABLE, fABLE’, a record that grapples with his own identity as much as it does the twists and turns of life,” it read. “Though some fans feared this might well be an epilogue to the Bon Iver project, it comes across as more of a rebirth.”

Since then, Vernon has said he would be “very surprised” if he makes another full length album after ‘SABLE, fABLE’.
