News : Paul Simon Revives “Something So Right” During Rare Colbert Performance

Paul Simon performed “Something So Right” during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week. You can watch the performance below.

The iconic songwriter appeared on the late night program on Thursday evening (April 2), bringing back the track from his 1973 solo album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon. The performance marked the first time he has played the song live since 1993.

Seated on a stool, Simon delivered the song alongside a full musical backing that featured acoustic guitar, string players, flute, bass, and percussion. After the performance, he sat down with Colbert to talk about his early days performing in England before Simon & Garfunkel found worldwide success with “The Sound Of Silence” in 1965.

Later this week, Simon is set to begin the United Kingdom and European portion of his A Quiet Celebration tour. The tour originally started in the United States last summer and marked his return to performing after stepping away from touring for seven years.

The European run will open in Prague on Thursday (April 9), followed by stops in cities including Liverpool and Glasgow. The schedule also includes two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall in May before wrapping up in Dublin. Fans can see the complete list of dates and check for remaining ticket availability online.

During the summer, the celebrated songwriter had to postpone two previously scheduled US concerts due to what was described as severe ongoing back pain.

“Today it became unmanageable and demands immediate attention,” his statement at the time read. “Unfortunately, we have to cancel these shows at this time, as we don’t have the ability to reschedule them.”

“However, we are hopeful after this minor surgical procedure which has been scheduled in the next few days, Paul will be able to complete the tour as well as look into returning to make up these dates.”

In 2018, Simon performed at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York in what was promoted at the time as his final live performance. “I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end,” he said during that show. “Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief.”

More recently, he also opened up about dealing with hearing loss, explaining that it made the creation of his 2023 album Seven Psalms particularly challenging and at times “incredibly frustrating.”
