News : Ash Celebrate 30 Years Of ‘1977’ With New Reissue And Tour Dates

Ash have officially announced a 30th anniversary reissue of their iconic debut album ‘1977’, alongside a new international tour and a special livestreamed performance.

Originally released in 1996, ‘1977’ became a massive breakthrough for the band, reaching Number One on the charts and earning platinum certification. The album included some of the group’s biggest songs, including ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Kung Fu’ and ‘Oh Yeah’.

To celebrate the album turning 30, the band are now preparing a brand new anniversary edition, arriving in several formats including a 2LP green and black vinyl pressing, a 2CD digisleeve with an accompanying booklet, and digital editions.

Alongside the original 12 track album, the updated release will feature four bonus songs, including the previously unreleased ‘Bittersweet Blue’, a new 2026 version of ‘Oh Yeah’, a 2026 demo of ‘Girl From Mars’, and an acoustic 2026 mix of ‘Gone The Dream’.

The second disc will include a live performance recorded at STABAL Studios in 2021, featuring the band playing ‘1977’ in full alongside fan favourite tracks from that era. Fans can pre order the release now, while footage of the band performing ‘Oh Yeah’ live from STABAL Studios has also been shared online.

Today, May 6, the band will also perform a special livestreamed concert from Belfast’s Oh Yeah Music Centre to mark exactly 30 years since the album’s original release. The intimate acoustic set will see Tim Wheeler and the rest of the group revisiting songs from the landmark record.

The livestream event will be hosted by BBC Introducing presenter Taylor Johnson, who will also interview the band about the stories and inspiration behind the music. Remaining tickets are still available ahead of the concert beginning at 8pm tonight.

Later this year, Ash will also head out on a large anniversary tour spanning Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and Europe.

The tour launches in Perth on September 4 before continuing across Australia and New Zealand, eventually heading to Singapore and Hong Kong later that month.

European dates begin in Utrecht this November and include stops in Cologne, Berlin and Eindhoven. UK and Ireland dates then kick off in Torquay in December before wrapping up with a major hometown style celebration at Roundhouse on December 17.

Tickets officially go on sale May 15, while pre sale access opens May 12. Ahead of the headline tour, the band are also scheduled to appear at major festivals including Download Festival and Isle of Wight Festival.

Last September, the band released a double A side single featuring contributions from Graham Coxon of Blur. Shortly after, frontman Tim Wheeler also joined Coldplay onstage during performances of ‘Clocks’ at Wembley Stadium.

The group’s most recent studio album was 2025’s ‘Ad Astra’, which marked their ninth full length release and followed 2023’s ‘Race The Night’.
