Britney Spears is pushing back against recent online claims about her behavior during a restaurant outing, calling the reports exaggerated and unfair.

In a statement shared with Billboard on Thursday, May 14, Spears’ spokesperson denied allegations that the singer acted dangerously while dining out, saying she was only spending time quietly with her assistant and bodyguard during the evening in question.

According to the representative, Spears had simply been talking about her dog barking at neighbors and never placed anyone at risk. “At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife,” the spokesperson said.

They also addressed reports that Spears had been holding a knife at the restaurant, explaining that she was only using it to cut her hamburger in half. The spokesperson added that the constant criticism directed toward the pop star feels similar to the intense media treatment she experienced decades ago. “This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person,” they said. “This is ridiculous and it needs to stop now.”

The response followed a viral post on X made by someone claiming they had been seated near Spears during the alleged incident on Wednesday, May 13. The user described the dinner as an “INSANE dining experience” and claimed one diner had feared for their safety because of Spears’ behavior.

The following day, TMZ published a report alleging that Spears had been “screaming” and “barking” while dining at Blue Dog Tavern. The outlet also reported that a witness claimed the singer walked past their table carrying a knife.

The incident arrives during a period in which Spears has been attempting to move forward following legal troubles earlier this year. In March, the singer was arrested in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of DUI before later entering a treatment facility.

Weeks later, Spears accepted a plea deal connected to the case and received one year of probation after pleading guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge commonly referred to as a “wet reckless,” which is considered less serious than a DUI involving drugs or alcohol.

At the time, Spears’ attorney Michael Goldstein said the singer had accepted responsibility and was actively making positive changes.

“She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI,” Goldstein said. “Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received.”
