Big Sean has appeared to take shots at Kanye West in a new freestyle for On the Radar Radio.
Rapping over Aaliyah‘s classic hit “If Your Girl Only Knew,” the Detroit rapper opened the freestyle by seemingly referencing Ye’s disparaging comments about him on a 2021 episode of Drink Champs where he said signing Sean to G.O.O.D. Music was the “worst” thing he ever did.
“I had to switch the home team ’cause they committed treason,” he rapped. “N-ggas looking for engagement like they got their knee bent / I got better things to do than to find someone to beef with.”
Sean later spit: “Man, this industry is terrible, I can’t even vouch / I’ve seen grown men get matching tattoos for the clout.”
These lyrics are a more obvious dig at Kanye who got indentical tattoos with Lil Uzi Vert and Steve Lacy in 2022. The trio all got the phrase, “We Here Forever Technically” inked on their biceps.
Sean also used the freestyle to pay tribute to Aaliyah, who he described as a “real Detroit legend,” as well as fellow Motor City icon J Dilla by hanging a Dilla cap on his microphone stand at the end of his performance.
While some speculated that Big Sean’s bars were actually aimed at Kendrick Lamar, who he has also had a contentious relationship with, DJ Hed confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the Compton rapper wasn’t the target.
“I talked to Sean. The bar was ‘I got better things to do then find someone to beef with.’ And it was not for Dot,” the Bigger Picture co-host wrote. “Bar was directed at a different Gemini.”
Sean himself also addressed the freestyle on social media afterwards, writing in a since-deleted post: “N fuck these b*tch ass n-ggaz, every one of them.”
In a separate tweet, he added: “Yall goin wit so many narratives, im talking to da haters who just keep finding something to point out they dont like bout me. Its not even worth explaining tho im a just focus on the music.”
Big Sean just recently appeared to be on better terms with Kanye West by previewing an unreleased collaboration with the Chicago rap legend that he hinted would appear on the much-delayed Vultures 2 with Ty Dolla $ign.
Sean also promised that new music would drop this week as he gears up to release his new album after featuring on Eminem‘s “Tobey” alongside fellow Detroit native BabyTron.
