News : Oasis respond to reunion tour ticket controversy with extra Wembley shows – by invite-only ballot

Oasis have responded to demand, difficulties and controversies surrounding the launch of their 2025 reunion tour ticket sale by announcing two new shows at Wembley Stadium, with very strict rules in place.

The Britpop giants announced their return last week – confirming a run of UK and Ireland stadium shows for 2025. Revealing their first performances together since their final gig and acrimonious split in 2009, Liam and Noel Gallagher issued a statement telling fans: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned.The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

However, when tickets to the European-exclusive shows went on sale on Saturday (August 31), fans met difficulty in being held in online queues for hours (with many being kicked out of line with Ticketmaster’s systems believing them to be ticket tout bots), and many who did get through were shocked to find tickets at hugely inflated prices due to “dynamic” pricing (an automatic surge increase due to demand).

After hundreds of fans complained to the Advertising Standards Agency (with investigations suggested by the UK government and the European Commission), now Oasis have spoken out to explain surge pricing came into place and have announced more shows to compensate the fans who missed out.

A press release has revealed that over 10million fans from 158 countries were all attempting to purchase tickets, leaving “all ticket platforms struggling to cope, resulting in immense frustration and disappointment for fans who missed out after queuing for many hours.”

Now the band are offering “a small step towards making amends for the situation” with “a special invitation-only ballot ticket sale strategy” for two new Wembley gigs on Friday September 27 and Saturday September 28.

“Applications to join the ballot will be opened first to the many fans who were unsuccessful in the initial on sale with Ticketmaster,” the statement continued.

“Inevitably interest in this tour is so overwhelming that it’s impossible to schedule enough shows to fulfil public demand. But this ticket sale strategy will make the process far smoother for fans by reducing the stress and time it takes to obtain one of the hottest tickets of our time.

Responding to the complaints over dynamic ticketing, the statement from the band said: “It needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management, and at no time had any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used.

“While prior meetings between promoters, Ticketmaster and the band’s management resulted in a positive ticket sale strategy, which would be a fair experience for fans, including dynamic ticketing to help keep general ticket prices down as well as reduce touting, the execution of the plan failed to meet expectations. All parties involved did their utmost to deliver the best possible fan experience, but due to the unprecedented demand this became impossible to achieve.”

This comes after Oasis partnered with Twickets as official re-seller of tickets to the reunion tour. After touts snapped up tickets in the pre-sale, the band reminded fans that “people attempting to sell tickets on the secondary market” will have them “cancelled by the promoters”.

Twickets soon had to reduce their fees on tickets, due to them also being inflated under those purchased with surge pricing.

Having promised fans that plans are “underway” for gigs outside of Europe in 2025, Oasis seem to be teasing the announcement of US dates with billboards across the States. The band have also made clear that they will not be headlining Glastonbury or appearing at any festivals next year.

Much mystery and speculation surrounds who will be in the line-up of the reformed band beyond the Gallaghers, however both Bonehead and Gem Archer are tipped to be playing guitar, with Alan White teasing that he’ll be back behind the drums.
