Caleb Shomo has publicly come out as gay following growing speculation about his personal life online.
The Beartooth frontman shared the announcement through an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, explaining that he wanted to address the rumors himself before they caused more pain to the people closest to him.
He wrote: "There's been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late, and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further.
"I am a proudly gay man. This is something I've been unpacking and reckoning with in my life for quite some time now."
Shomo has been married to Fleur Shomo for 14 years, and shortly after his statement, she shared a message of her own expressing support for him while confirming that the couple has separated.
In her post, Fleur wrote: "The past few months have been a very disorienting and hurtful time to navigate.
"For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb. I have cared more about his well-being over the years than anything else in the world."
The Disease singer also reflected on the emotional toll of keeping his sexuality hidden for so long, admitting he wishes he had faced it earlier in life.
He shared that he feels "embarrassed" for not coming out sooner and revealed that he "spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol."
Shomo ended his message by expressing gratitude to everyone who has supported him and encouraged others struggling with their identity to be patient and compassionate with themselves.
He wrote: "Do the hard work instead of burying it down as deep as you physically can, thinking it will change like I did."
