The Bay Area rap legend took to Instagram on Monday (May 22) to post a snapshot of the list of solo rappers with the most charting albums in Billboard 200 history. E-40 topped the list with an astonishing 33 albums.

“Numbers don’t lie I’m just getting started,” 40 water said, before announcing the impending release of his next album. “7/7/2023 E-40 Rule Of Thumb 1 & 2 stay tuned !”

Other artists on the list included NBA YoungBoySnoop DoggNas, and 2Pac, to name a few. E-40’s last offering was 2019’s Practice Makes Paper.

The multi-hyphenate businessman is letting the celebratory times roll in both music and the collegiate world. He recently received an honorary doctorate degree in music from his alma mater, Grambling State University.

E-40 was on hand to receive the degree at GSU’s graduation ceremony earlier this month, where he also offered words of wisdom, encouragement and appreciation to the graduating class.

“This means so much to me, man, being from Magazine Street – 1300 block [of] Vallejo, California, ya understand me? The Bay Area,” E-40 told the crowd.

“This means so much ‘cause I came a long way. I wanna thank God first and foremost. Always. It is with great honor and gratitude that I accept this honorary doctorate in music. I would like to express my appreciation to the administration…”

Meanwhile, E-40 recently criticized Rolling Stone for not including “Tell Me When to Go” on its list of “100 Greatest West Coast Hip Hop Songs.”

He took to Twitter on May 3 to air his grievances with the publication, which published the expansive list earlier this month.

40 Water started off by thanking Rolling Stone for including his 1993 song “Captain Save a Hoe,” which made the Top 20, but took issue with his “timeless” 2006 hit being left off.

“Hey Rolling Stone, appreciate you guys for including ‘Captain Save a Hoe’ at No. 18 of your 100 Greatest West Coast Hip-Hop Songs of All Time,” E-40 wrote. “But there’s no excuse for ‘Tell Me When To Go’ being completely left off the list #Timeless.”

Featuring fellow Bay Area native Keak Da Sneak, “Tell Me When to Go” appeared on E-40’s 2006 album My Ghetto Report Card. The Lil Jon-produced track is credited with bringing national attention to the hyphy movement and popularizing the phrase “ghost ride the whip.”

The song hit No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was eventually certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). As for “Captain Save a Hoe,” the song was E-40’s breakout hit, peaking at No. 94 on the Hot 100.
