In a press release shared with Yahoo!, the “Mask Off” rapper revealed that his foundation has partnered with 2K Foundations to launch the I Am A Dreamer Lab on Friday (May 26) at a school near to where the Atlanta native grew up.
“It’s important that all students receive access to STEAM education regardless of their background,” he said in the press release statement. “Our Freewishes Foundation, with the support of the 2K Foundations, has helped make this possible in our Atlanta community. We’re thankful for their commitment to support our initiative.”
“We are creating a science technology, engineering, art, and mathematics lab as an extension of Freewishes educational initiative,” added Tia Wilburn, who is the executive director of the foundation, as well as Future’s sister. “We wanted to add art because both Future and I support creativity.”
In addition to supporting STEAM programs for disadvantaged youth, the Freewishes Foundation “has evolved into a versatile non-profit organization that sponsors a wide-range of programs, events and services throughout Atlanta,” per the foundation’s official website.
Back in December, Future and the Freewishes Foundation spread some Christmas cheer throughout Atlanta by treating 1,000 families to an all-out shopping spree at Target as part of the organization’s I AM A DREAMER Holiday Pop-Up.
The toy drive took place on December 17 and served as the Freewishes Foundation’s 9th annual event.
“Christmas has always been another opportunity to give and not receive for the foundation,” Future’s sister, Tia Wilburn, said in a statement (via VIBE). “We’ve been committed to giving back to those in need for over ten years, especially in metro Atlanta and the neighborhood we grew up in, Kirkwood.”
Future’s mother, Tia Jester, added: “I’m so happy that everyone was able to get the things they need for their children and family members. We are doing our part to service our communities. In over a decade we’ve never waited for anyone else to help our community.
“We have always stepped up to the plate. Our commitment to the community is very faith-based. God has been a blessing to our family and we want to continue to service the community.”
