This Christmas (Dec. 25), Summer Walker gifted her fans with a new visual single titled “Drown In My Love.”
The LVRN songbird’s latest offering is a preview into a more soulful sound from the singer as she sings, “Don’t touch me there, I’m not ready/ I’m sorry but my heart’s too heavy/ You’re starin’ me right in my face/ Hopin’ and prayin’ it ain’t too late/ But that ain’t a risk I’m willin’ to take/ Leave me in peace all alone/ I rather wallow/ No, don’t take me up out my sorrows, oh/ I need to feel it, I need to feel it/ So I can heal it, baby…”
When announcing the surprise release, Walker captioned the video on Instagram, “For the love of art.”
The video features DMV rapper Foggieraw as Walker’s love interest. In the YouTube short, the couple displays varying levels affection as Walker, mostly, appears withdrawn and aloof within their vintage home.
The unofficial single comes after the release of Walker’s EPs, CLEAR 2: SOFT LIFE and Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) from earlier this year. Despite not having dropped an album since 2021’s Still Over It, the mother of three has been keeping her fans fed with guest features. Over the past two years, Walker has appeared on Sexyy Red’s “I Might,” Usher’s “Good Good,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Purple Hearts,” Bakar’s “Hell N Back,” Alex Vaughn’s “So Be It (Remix),” Ari Lennox’s “Queen Space,” and more.
If this is a taste of what’s to come from Walker in 2024, fans and friends are already praising her newness. Erykah Badu called the track “lovely” on Instagram and Branford Jones of They Have The Range commented, “YES!!!! More of this sound!!!!!” Watch the full video above.
