Bas brings viewers into a brand new world with the music video for his new single “Decent” featuring Amaarae.
Directed by Danaé Gosset, the animated visual finds Bas and his romantic partner going through the peaks and valleys that come with companionship while in front of a muted audience. According to Gosset, the concept for the video is a depiction of how matters of the heart can sometimes be challenged by creative pursuits.
“[It] illustrates the challenges of balancing a healthy relationship as an artist while actively pursuing passion and success. The thematic exploration of restraint and escapism is brought to life through a series of performance art pieces interwoven into the narrative,” said Gosset.
Inspired by the work of both visual and performance artists, including Marina Abramovich, Yoann Bourgeois, Yoko Ono, James Turrell and others, the “Decent” music video is the latest visual unveiled in support of Bas’ latest project, We Only Talk About Real Sh*t When We’re F**ked Up.
Released in December 2023, the Queens, N.Y. rep’s fourth studio album also features appearances from J. Cole, A$AP Ferg, Blxckie, AJ Tracey, FKJ, Adekule Gold, and Sha Sha. Producers on We Only Talk About Real Sh*t When We’re F**ked Up include Boi1da, Coleman, T-Minus, J Lloyd (Jungle), Lydia Kitto, Kel-P, and more.
The album marks Bas’ first solo studio album in five years, with his last full-length release being 2018’s Milky Way. Led by the singles “Boca Raton” featuring A$AP Ferg and the J. Cole-assisted “Tribe,” Milky Way debuted at number 35 on the US Billboard 200, selling 13,150 album-equivalent units in the first week.
